Fasten the treads with carpet tacks if your stairs are already carpeted. Then use the top of the step as a guide to cut the double sided tape to size. Center a tackless strip on the top stair tread 1 4 inch from the back edge of the tread where the tread meets the riser and nail it in place. Clean all of the stairs with a clean damp cloth.

When you re finally done with the padding you can start installing the carpet stair treads. For a flat top installation mark a cut line on the rug pad inch from the front of the stair tread. The points on the strip should lean toward the riser. All installed carpet stair treads can be easily removed or replaced as needed.
