To do this start with the very bottom of the stairs and then secure it in through the tackless tape that you have at each step.
How to install stair treads rugs.
Fasten the treads with carpet tacks if your stairs are already carpeted.
Then use the top of the step as a guide to cut the double sided tape to size.
Center a tackless strip on the top stair tread 1 4 inch from the back edge of the tread where the tread meets the riser and nail it in place.
Clean all of the stairs with a clean damp cloth.
When you re finally done with the padding you can start installing the carpet stair treads.
For a flat top installation mark a cut line on the rug pad inch from the front of the stair tread.
The points on the strip should lean toward the riser.
All installed carpet stair treads can be easily removed or replaced as needed.
Wait for the surface to dry.
You can use an awl to push the carpet stair tread in.
2 once the surface is dry place the stair tread on the step with the back facing upwards.

If the stair is open on the side with railing posts the carpet must be cut around each post and re joined on the other side.
Insert three carpet tacks in the center of each stair tread and another tack in each corner making a total of seven tacks.
First install the tread as described above.
Next make a slit directly in line with each post to the edge of the carpet away from the stair.
Align the top edge of the rug pad against the back of the tread and use a yardstick to make sure it is straight.
