How to make a rug out of carpet samples.
This co op operated like a cross between sam s club.
I used 50 worth of carpet samples 1 ea to make this rug using roberts heat seam carpet tape and an iron.
Measure across the rug then cut and peel one side of the tape.
Make sure to have something beneath the remnant to protect your working surface.
Start by laying out the rug samples and determining a basic pattern you want to go with which patterns or colors look best next to each other etc.
Unroll the carpet remnant and place it face down on a flat surface.
Make sure to protect the surface beneath the remnant.
Use a black marker and straightedge to mark the carpet backing where you want to cut it.

Whether the carpet is woven or needle punched it should be possible to tell by looking at the pile side and or the underside which way its straight grain runs.
When working at the pattern for my rug pieces were layered on top of each other as shown in the photo to determine smaller pieces that would be cut while making sure everything would line up in the end.
Use the straightedge to guide your carpet knife as you cut the carpet to ensure a clean straight cut.
Cut out the rug.
You may have to make 2 passes with the knife.
Step 1 lay our your samples and move them around until you get the pattern and size you want.
Not a cheap thing but i already had the sample.
The carpet used for the patterns should be of the same type and texture as the background carpet.
Arrange the carpet squares into a 7x5 rectangle.
Use a utility knife to cut out the rug pressing firmly.
Step 2 cut the binding edges off the carpet remnants using a square and utility knife.
Cut out the background rug placing the carpet on corrugated cardboard or other surface that cannot be damaged if cut with a blade.
